Partner Story

Manduvirá is a cooperative in Paraguay started in 1975 by small-scale farmers to improve their livelihoods. Today it unites around 1 600 organic sugar cane growers who focus on sustainable production and community development. Through fair trade, they reinvest half of their premiums into local projects and share the rest with members. To gain independence from a local sugar monopoly, Manduvirá built its own sugar mill in 2014, allowing farmers to negotiate prices and earn more. Its organic, fair-trade sugar is sold in over 30 countries and helps strengthen the economic, social and ecological well-being of its community.
